Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program

The Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program allows homeowners to receive up to $10,000 in renovation rebates. The homeowner is responsible for paying energy audit costs and may apply for the $600 reimbursement for your energy assessments upon completion of 2 eligible upgrades, limited to once per premise. Funding received through the Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program is not taxable and does not have to be declared as income.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible homeowners must:

Complete at least 2 upgrades to qualify for a rebate
Be renovating a primary residence, non-primary home, and rental property
Have an electrically heated home or Enbridge Gas heated homes
Have the final audit completed within 180 days of the initial audit (possible extensions for delays beyond a customer’s control, subject to approval)

Upgrades (Minimum of 2 Upgrades Required)

Upgrade 1: Attic Insulation	Maximum Rebate
Attic: Increase attic insulation to at least R-50 from R-12 or less	$1500
Attic: Increase attic insulation to at least R-50 from greater than R-12 up to R-25	$1200
Attic: Increase attic insulation to at least R-50 from greater than R-25 up to R-35	$900
Cathedral Ceiling / Flat Roof: Increase cathedral roof insulation to at least R-28 from R-25 or less	$780
Cathedral Ceiling / Flat Roof: Increase cathedral roof insulation to at least R-20 from R-12 or less	$780

Minimum 50% to be insulated. Rebate amount will be prorated based on the total % of ceiling area insulated. Total rebate amount for any combination of attic, cathedral ceiling and flat roof insulation cannot exceed $1,500

Upgrade 2: Basement Insulation	Maximum Rebate
Basement Wall¹: Add insulation greater than R-22 to 100% of the basement wall area	$1500
Basement Wall¹: Add insulation of R-10 up to R-22 to 100% of the basement wall area	$900
Basement Slab: Insulate at least 50% of the entire basement slab area to add a minimum of R-3.5	$500
Crawl Space Wall¹: Add insulation greater than R-22 to 100% of the exterior crawl space wall	$1200
Crawl Space Wall¹: Add insulation of R-10 up to R-22 to 100% of the exterior crawl space wall	$600
Crawl Space Ceiling: Add insulation greater than R-24 to 100% of the crawl space ceiling	$1200
Foundation Header²: Insulate at least 80% of the entire foundation header area to add a minimum of R-20	$300

¹Minimum 20% to be insulated and rebate amount will be prorated based on the total % of walls insulated. If insulating both basement walls and crawl space walls, the maximum rebate for both areas is $1,500.
²Foundation header can be a basement header, a crawl space header, or a combination of both. Foundation headers are not eligible to count as a qualified measure but can qualify for a rebate when done in
combination with crawl space wall or basement wall insulation. 3Maximum rebate for any combination of basement insulation cannot exceed $2,300.

Upgrade 3: Exterior Wall Insulation	Maximum Rebate
Exterior Wall: Add insulation greater than R-20 to 100% of the exterior wall area	$3600
Exterior Wall: Add insulation greater than R-12 up to R-20 to 100% of the exterior wall area	$2100
Exterior Wall: Add insulation of R-7.5 to R-12 up to 100% of the exterior wall area	$1200

Minimum 20% to be insulated. Rebate amount will be prorated based on the total % wall area insulated. Total rebate cannot exceed $3600.

Upgrade 4: Exposed Floor Insulation	Maximum Rebate
Exposed Floor: Add insulation of at least R-20 to the entire exposed floor area	$300

Minimum area of 11 square meters or 120 square feet must be insulated.

Upgrade 5: Air Sealing	Maximum Rebate
Air Sealing: Achieve the target in your Renovation Upgrade Report	$200
Air Sealing: Achieve 10% or more above the base target in your Renovation Upgrade Report	$250

Renovation Upgrade Reports (RUR) will be provided by your energy advisor after completion of your energy audit. Receipts are ONLY required for air sealing if a heat pump water heater is being claimed as the second measure.

Upgrade 5: Windows / Doors	Maximum Rebate
Windows/Doors: For each window, door, skylight or sliding door replaced with an ENERGY STAR certified model	$100 / rough opening

A minimum of 3 windows, or 1 door, or 1 skylight, or 1 sliding door are required to be upgraded to qualify for a rebate and will count as 1 qualified measure. For clarity, replacing only 1 or 2 windows with an ENERGY STAR certified model will NOT count as a qualified measure, or qualify for a rebate. Replacing already existing ENERGY STAR certified model windows/doors will also not qualify.

Upgrade 5: Water Heating	Maximum Rebate
Water Heating: Replace your domestic water heater with an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heater	$500
